Job Description:

Position Purpose

This position readies and maintains financial and business transactions, applying accounting principles that include work that is analytical, evaluative, and advisory in nature and that requires an understanding of both accounting theory and practice. This position is responsible professional level accounting functions and assistance in the preparation of reporting including earning, profit/losses, cash balances and cost accounting and will also be responsible for ad hoc and/or special projects or reporting as needed. In addition, this position may assist with month-end closing processes.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions.
  • Distributes expenditures, encumbrances, receipts, and receivables according to schedules.
  • Performs statistical analyses to determine trends, estimates, and significant changes, and writes narrative reports explaining findings.
  • Analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, and prepares balances sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected company financial position for other managers.
  • Reviews, investigates, and corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents and reports.
  • Prepares general ledger entries by maintaining records and files; reconciling accounts.Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
  • Track expenditures against budget and monitor general ledger accounts performance versus budget and reconcile problems.
  • Participate on ad hoc and/or special projects or reporting as needed.
  • Assist senior management with the overall financial analysis of expenses and operations and forecasting of the business.
  • Backup to AP and AR.
  • Utilizes knowledge of the fundamental doctrines, theories, principles, and terminology of accountancy, and often entails some understanding of such related fields as business law, statistics, and general management.
  • Analyzes the effects of transactions upon account relationships.
  • Evaluates alternative means of treating transactions.
  • Plans the manner in which account structures should be developed or modified.
  • Ensures the adequacy of the accounting system as the basis for reporting to management.
  • Considers the need for new or changed controls.
  • Projects accounting data to show the effects of proposed plans on capital investments, income, cash position, and overall financial condition.
  • Interprets the meaning of accounting records, reports, and statements.
  • Advises operating officials on accounting matters.
  • Excludes paraprofessional accountants.
  • Recommends improvements, adaptations, or revisions in the accounting system and procedures.
  • Applies principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports.

  • Analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, and prepares balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports to summarize current and projected company financial position.
  • Audits contracts, orders, and vouchers, and prepares reports to substantiate individual transactions prior to settlement.
  • At the fully competent level, may lead and coordinate activities of other lower level accountants, paraprofessionals, and/or may establish, modify, document, and coordinate implementation of accounting and accounting control procedures.
  • May devise and implement manual or computer-based system for general accounting.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience and Skills:

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics required, or equivalent work experience.
  • CPA Preferred
  • Two to four years of experience in a role which requires extensive financial analysis and planning, required.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and critical reasoning skills.
  • Retail and/or wholesale sales, marketing, merchandising, planning, analysis experience, preferred.
  • Expert technical skill proficiency using Microsoft Excel,Excellent influencing and verbal communication skills
  • Ethical standards and personal integrity
  • Strong customer service orientation combined with the highest quality assurance standards
  • Open, flexible, honest and collaborative teaming skills
  • Ability to deal with rapidly changing organizational issues and anticipate/forecast customer demand

  • Position requires meeting deadlines and must also deal with a wide variety of people on various issues.
  • Position requires intense concentration with long hours entering financial information that requires attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
